The London College of Music was founded in 1887 and existed as an independent music conservatoire based in central London until 1991, when it moved to Ealing, west London, to become part of the newly-formed Thames Valley University. (For a detailed history click here.)
LCM is known for its dynamic and innovative courses, one to one teaching, excellent facilities, professional standards and international staff.
Music Individual lessons in performance or composition form the backbone of the BMus courses at Tech Music Schools and MMus courses at the LCM. Students receive up to 28 hours of one-to-one teaching each year from internationally acclaimed members of staff and other performers and composers who teach on a visiting basis. Options within courses allow students to pursue greater amounts of composition or performance as their courses progress, rising from a minimum of one third in the first year.
We also work with the Raj Academy of Asian Music, which has distinguished itself as a centre devoted to the original musical traditions of Indian Classical Music.
Music Technology Placed in the heart of the UK's music and media business (click here for map), with resources second to none and with over a decade of experience the LCM is one of the leading centres for contemporary music technology. Since 1991 we have pioneered music technology course development with the original DipHE Music Technology (specialist) which later became the basis of the BA (Hons) Music Technology (specialist) and there are now a wide range of courses available from specialist short courses through to FdA, BA and MA provision, and since 2008 the new MA Music Industry Management & Artist Development and currently under development in 2009, the MA Record Production. These all have a unique creative perspective which equips students with sophisticated skills appropriate to the demands of the rapidly changing music industry.
TVU also has two radio stations, Blast Radio based at Ealing and Blast 1386 located at Reading - both stations enable students to acquire live and direct broadcasting experience. Blast 1386 programmes can also be listened to online.
